Reflecting on Research Writing Growth
This page explains how my selected ENC1102 projects show growth in producing research-based genres for different audiences and purposes. I discuss the choices I made as a writer, from topic selection and evidence integration to organization and tone. This piece of writing shows development toward more purposeful, flexible research writing that responds to real rhetorical situations.
Major Assignment: Mini Literature review:

My Mini Literature Review demonstrates this outcome because it required me to shape research into a genre that serves a clear audience and purpose. I had to organize my ideas so that readers could follow the claim, select evidence that supported my analysis, and explain sources rather than simply summarize them. Revising the assignment helped me recognize that research writing is not only about collecting information; it is also about designing an effective response for readers. Through drafting, receiving feedback, and refining my organization and explanations, I produced a stronger research genre and became more intentional about the choices behind my writing.
Mini Assignment: Reading Response 8: Clary-Lemon et al. (Chapter 2):
This assignment helped me apply research genre into an assignment. Me and my group came up with a research question in class and then with this assignment I proceeded to reflect on it. This assignment also made me realize my flaws in the research process. I learned that I need to not assume anything in the research process. I need to take everything at face value and ne er assume. That will lead to a flaw in my research.
My research question from class is: Does Minecraft send a thematic message to players through its visual rhetoric? Based on Clary-Lemon et al.’s discussion of research ethics, one thing I need to work on in my research is not assuming that all Minecraft players see the game’s visuals as much as I do. What colors, environments, characters, and other visuals are used for in Minecraft might be interpreted differently by different players. So I need to be open to the different opinions and not just think that my interpretation is the only correct one. If I am going to use Minecraft players’ opinions to back up my ideas, I have to be honest with them; they should be given credit. Ethical research is about being honest with sources, considering different angles, and having some evidence to back up what you are saying.
